Our story

The Dish Girls are floral artists Caroline Bates of Hayloft Floral and Sophie Warren-Smith of Flowers Inside My Head. Together they have designed an innovative collection of hand thrown ceramics for floral designers.

The Dish Girls was formed after both Caroline and Sophie struggled to find the ultimate 'dish' to use for centrepieces. Too tall, too wide, too upright and not sustainable enough were our top issues. So we decided to design our own. We wanted a beautiful piece that sat between a dish and a footed bowl, that could be used with chicken wire without tape, British made with sustainability at the forefront – oh and in pretty colours of course... And this is how Elsie was born.

Our Team

Caroline Bates

“I’ve always been obsessed with the natural world and working with nature in as sustainable way as possible in my own cutting garden and through my floral design business. I’m fascinated with organic forms and natural materials, which has grown through my varied experience spanning the National Trust, historic houses and museums, antique interiors, product design and sales. This puts me in a unique position of having the creative and practical skills needed to take a product from conception to market.”

“With a creative background as a former magazine stylist and working as a bespoke wedding florist for six years, my obsession is colour, form and composition, all of which were taken into consideration when we designed our first dish, Elsie, and these key elements will be taken further as we develop The Dish Girls products.”

Our Products

Our dishes are made in the UK by another small business using sustainably sourced clay. They are hand thrown and hand glazed so there will be very slight variations giving each piece its own individual character.
